The Daily Journal of Bridge and Engine Room Watchkeeping Duties
1. Is a requirement of MARINA, under STCW MC 2014-02, to document the STCW Code required of 6 months watchkeeping duties.
2. The STCW MC 2016-01.The revision designated the MHEI (the school) to check the authenticity and the validity of the said Journal.
3. There are two editions of this Journal the 2014 edition format, which requires cadet to fill-up one page each day of watchkeeping and sign by the Master or the Designated Shipboard Training Officer (DSTO). The 2016 edition format, has still a daily entry but only be sign on the 7th day of watchkeeping.
4. How will you determine which edition will be used?
4.1 If the date you started documenting your watchkeeping duties is before January 2016, then use the 2014 edition;
4.2 If it is on or after January 2016, then use the 2016 edition.
5. Who will be required a Daily Journal?
Answer: All cadet applying for Certificate of Validation, Assessment and Approval of their 12 and 36 months Sea-Going Services or commonly known us BS (All cadet applying for BS), regardless of year you are recognized.
6. How many months. should I finish the required 6 months watch keeping duties?
Answer: No duration limit 1, 2, or more. It depends upon the policy of your company, as long as your Watchkeeping duties are documented on a daily Journal.
NOTE: REMINDER THE DAILY JOURNAL IS NOT OF THE SCHOOL BUT A MARINA REQUIREMENT UNDER STCW 2014-02 AND REVISE BY STCW MC 2016-02. THAT THE SCHOOL IS DESIGNATED TO CHECK IN BEHALF OF MARINA, TO INCLUDED ON THE MONITORING OF MARINA CHED INSPECTION.
